Hello. Tell us about Jon Grant London. Who are you and what do you do?

Hello! We are Jon, Giedre & Juan- a small team of three creatives that make up Jon Grant London. We design and make bespoke furniture from our East London workshop, where we work on a variety of bespoke residential and commercial projects. We also have a growing range of our own freestanding furniture available on our website, where a lot of the design ideas came about from using off-cuts from our larger projects (that would otherwise have found their way to the bin) in an effort to reduce waste and create something useful.

Your website talks about a range of residential and commercial projects that you take on. Can you tell us a bit more about what they are?

We work on a wide variety of projects, from fitted wardrobes, alcove units and kitchens to bespoke office desks and office storage, even office kitchens and break out spaces. The majority of our work is produced using high grade birch plywood, veneers and decorative laminates or furniture linoleum. We love to incorporate solid wood details into our designs where appropriate, as well as folded sheet metalwork and lighting.

Your work has a modern style and simplicity to its appearance, yet it sits perfectly and sympathetically within period homes. Why do you think that is?

We pay close attention to the proportions of each space and also the style and materials the client may have already used elsewhere in the home, or specified when at the design stage. This ensures the furniture sits happily in its surroundings and works well within that space.

Do you provide a design process too, or purely the production stage?

We do offer a design process and most of our projects are approached in this way, to ensure we reach a result that both we and our clients are happy with. Once a site visit has been carried out, we work through the design phase to reach a final design that the client is happy with. Only once this design is signed off do we start production in our workshop.

When considering bespoke furniture (whether free-standing or integrated) for a period home, what should homeowners think about and be aware of?

While we often feel this can be a very personal decision, we do advise our clients to consider material choice and finish when approaching us to design something bespoke for their home. But having said that, the first port of call is always; what needs to be achieved in terms of storage and how will the space be used.

What is important to you about the products you produce and what can customers expect from a Jon Grant product?

It’s important to us that our projects are well designed and well made, to ensure they are looked after and enjoyed for many years to come. It takes a lot of energy to produce a bespoke piece of furniture for the home or office and it’s important to us that it’s not discarded within a few years.

You’re based in East London; what do you like about being based in this area? Do you find most of your work is in this part of London too?

We love East London and the huge variety of projects we get asked to be a part of, whether residential or commercial. There are a lot of people renovating amazing homes in the area and some great businesses enjoying huge success and growth. We genuinely love receiving such interesting enquiries, as well as being able to offer our experience to bring a project to life. While a lot of our work is based in East London, we have worked on some fantastic projects across London and the surrounding area. We are happy to travel for the right project.

Are we able to visit your workshop?

We often invite our client’s to visit our workshop, to get a feel for the materials we use and see the quality of our work. We kindly ask that workshop visits are by appointment only.

What is the best way to start a project with you?

The best way to start a conversation with us is to send an email to studio@jongrant.london with some details about your project. For most projects we would ask for some rough dimensions of the space, along with any pictures showing any specific areas to watch out for or consider. If you have a material choice in mind or a certain look you want to achieve, this is also helpful and will allow us to arrive at an estimate.
